On-Site Shoots With Foreign Models: Five Things To Confirm First

Vela Creator Editorial · Updated December 3, 2025

On-site shoots are most vulnerable to last-minute changes. City and address, shoot window, physical scene, styling and demo, and an on-site contact should be locked before you invite the model. Here's an on-site brief checklist to avoid mishaps.

On-Site Shoots With Foreign Models: Five Things To Confirm First

City and address: not an afterthought

Whether a model can accept and how much on-site work costs depends first on city, exact address, and shoot window. Vague ranges like South China or near Shanghai rarely produce a workable invitation. Out-of-town shoots also add travel and time (the norm is a 6-hour minimum), so the earlier you give a precise address and date, the more accurate the quote and the less haggling.

The scene: stores, exhibitions, factories differ

Stores mean business hours and customer impact; exhibitions mean booth number, foot-traffic windows, and whether filming is allowed; factories need safety and dress-code clearance in advance; outdoor needs a weather backup. Explain what the scene looks like, what must be captured, and any noise or lighting issues in the brief so the model can prepare.

Styling and demo: needed, and who prepares it

State whether styling is required, who handles it, and any wardrobe rules; whether the model must operate the product, whether there are fixed lines or a set flow, and whether they should get materials to prepare. For demo-heavy content, give the model time to learn the product before arriving and on-camera performance improves naturally.

On-site contact and records: always have a decision-maker

There must be one on-site contact empowered to decide, handling reception, guidance, live adjustments, and sign-off. Punctual arrival, on-location cooperation, asset delivery, and licensing confirmation all enter the cooperation record, which is a repeat-business basis for the brand and reputation for the model, far more useful than a one-off chat.
